When the temperature rises, people everywhere flock to the movies to escape the heat and enjoy the best Hollywood has to offer.Īnd I’m no exception. Still, I’d take this action fix over “Transformers” - even with Michael Bay on as “Purge” producer.Summertime and movies go together like bread and butter-you can’t have one without the other. The commute home before the annual murderfest is probably not a good time to dawdle. ![]() The concept of the Purge as crime-prevention still eludes logic, as do the behaviors of most characters. “The Purge: Anarchy” isn’t particularly good, but it’s more entertaining than it should be, thanks mostly to that homage to John Carpenter (although Grillo’s character is no Snake Plissken). ![]() “It’s about one thing,” one character intones. He also shoehorns in a heavy-handed dose of class warfare. Writer-director James DeMonaco returns to helm the second “Purge,” moving from the “Panic Room”-style plot of the first film to a more action-oriented pseudo-“Escape from New York” vibe. This world of temporary lawlessness seems like a game of Grand Theft Auto come to life: roving murderous gangs, people picking off passersby with sniper rifles for fun and rampant jaywalking with impunity. ![]()
